Effective January 1, 2019, Dental Network of America will no longer accept or respond to phone inquiries from third-party solutions requesting benefit, eligibility and claim-related information for members of Blue Cross Blue Shield Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, as well as Dearborn National. We will only respond to direct inquiries from dental offices.
The HIPAA Privacy Rule created national standards to protect individuals' medical records and other personal information. It set boundaries on the use and release of health information. We are making this change to ensure that our member's protected health information (PHI) is secure and managed appropriately. The HIPAA Privacy Rule requires that we take reasonable steps to limit the use or disclosure of our member's PHI.
